ABOUT ME

/getting_here/

I started building websites in 1996 while working for a multimedia company specializing in enhanced CD-ROM applications. The company needed one of those “newfangled” websites all businesses seemed to be obtaining. I was the Graphic Designer tasked with coming up with some form of digital representation for the company. These were the days of Yahoo and Lycos, grey backgrounds, bright blue links, side bars, ISDN lines, Macromedia, Photoshop 2.0 and AOL. I dove right in, and the multimedia company successfully begun taking on new clients, specifically for me, to build “newfangled” websites for them too.

Fast forward 20 years. I have worked with internet start-ups, Fortune 500 companies, have had a variety of clients from mega-churches to national restaurants to local realtors and along that path I've learned about as much as one can. My drive and passion to learn pushed me to grow my skill-set with database design, server-side programming and front-end UI development. I became a true Full-Stack developer, a breed of “do-it-all” which is slowly growing out of existence due to web methodologies and knowledge expanding at a rapid pace.

Over the last seven years, I have pursued as much knowledge as I could about User Experience and Usability and even became a Certified Usability Analyst from Human Factors International. I advocate for the user and for accessibility of all websites. I take my education and experience in graphic design, mix in creativity, toss in left brain thinking, give it a little shake and out comes some cool stuff.

If you were to ask me what I do for a living, my short answer would be, “I build websites”. From the 30,000 foot level that’s what I do. From start to finish, from database development to front-end UI design and UX, I build it. The long answer, of course, has taken 20 years to write.
